With the Independent Season underway, the Vermont Lake Monsters are ready to play ball! The Lake Monsters are an independent affiliate of the Future Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). In fact, they are one of the couple professional baseball clubs that currently play in Vermont: Upper Valley NightHawks (Hartford) and Vermont Mountaineers (Montpelier). Before becoming an independent club in 2021, the Lake Monsters served as the Class-A Short farm team for the Oakland Athletics (2011-2020). Prior to that partnership, Vermont also collaborated with the Washington Nationals (2005-2010) and Montreal Expos (1993-2004). Based on its history being a Minor League affiliate, the Lake Monsters are pretty much the most popular sports franchise that resides in the Green Mountain State.

The Lake Monsters have been playing their home games at Centennial Field since 1994. Speaking of Centennial Field, the 4,000-capacity facility is located not far from the University of Vermont campus. The venue is about a 5-10 minute drive from Downtown Burlington as well as Burlington Bay. In fact, the stadium is about a 2.0-hour drive from Montreal, Quebec (home of the NHL’s Canadiens, CFL’s Alouettes, and MLS Soccer’s CF Montreal).
