The History of NASCAR Racing in Talladega, Alabama

With the NASCAR racing season around the corner, the GEICO® 500 Race (188 Laps and 500 Miles) is ready, set & go! GEICO® 500 Race has been racing at Talladega Superspeedway since 1970. Speaking of “Dega”, the venue is one of the longest racetracks in NASCAR (2.6 miles) along with Daytona (2 and 1/2 miles). The Southern-based racetrack also hosts another NASCAR race in the Fall called the YellaWood 500. Talladega is one of the several racetracks that host multiple NASCAR races in a season along with Daytona, Atlanta, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Bristol, and Charlotte. Over the past ten years, the GEICO® 500 Race was won by some of the most famous NASCAR stars like Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson & many more!

Talladega Superspeedway is about a 1.0-hour drive from Birmingham (home of the Birmingham Barons). The Southern-based racetrack is also about a 2.0-hour drive from Atlanta (home of the Braves, Hawks, and Falcons). Talladega race is located right next to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and the city’s Municipal Airport.
