The History of NASCAR Racing in Daytona

With the NASCAR racing season around the corner, the Daytona 500 (200 Laps and 500 Miles) is ready, set & go! Daytona 500 has been racing at Daytona International Speedway since 1959. Speaking of Daytona International Speedway, the venue also serves as the home for concerts and other outdoor events. The racetrack, which is also the home of the Coke Zero Sugar 400 Race (annually in August: 400 Miles & 160 Laps), has the capacity of over 120,000 racing fans.

Daytona International Speedway is about a 1.5-hour drive from Orlando (home of the UCF Knights and Orlando Magic). The racetrack is also about a 1.5-hour drive from Jacksonville (home of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Baseball). Since the Daytona 500 began in 1959, the race was won by some of the biggest names in NASCAR like Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin, and many more!
