The History of NASCAR Racing in Avondale, Arizona
With the NASCAR racing season around the corner, the Ruoff Mortgage 500 (312 Laps and 312 Miles) is ready, set & go! Ruoff Mortgage 500 has been racing at Phoenix Raceway since 2005. Speaking of Phoenix Raceway, the venue also serves as the home for the NASCAR Cups Series Championship in November. The Arizona-based racetrack is one of the several NASCAR venues that host more than one race in a season along with Atlanta, Daytona, Richmond, Fontana, and Talladega.
Phoenix Raceway is about a 30-35 minute drive from Downtown Phoenix (home of the MLB’s Diamondbacks and NBA’s Suns). The Avondale-based racetrack is also about a 35-40 minute drive from Glendale (home of the NFL’s Cardinals). Since the Ruoff Mortgage 500 race began in 2005, the race was won by some of the biggest names in NASCAR like Joey Lagano, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Martin Truex Jr, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, and many more!
