The History of Texas Longhorns Football at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Texas Longhorns are ready for kick-off! The men in white and burnt orange have been playing at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium since the mid-1920’s. Speaking of Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, the venue can hold at least 95,000 fans in attendance. The Longhorns football venue is about a 1.5-hour drive from San Antonio (home of the NBA’s Spurs-2014 NBA Champions). Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium is also located on the University of Texas campus. The Longhorns football stadium was named after former Texas Head Coach Darrell K. Royal (who led the team to three national championships in the 1963, 1969, 1970).
Since its opening, the Longhorns football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Mack Brown (head coach), QB Vince Young, RB Cedric Benson, WR Roy Williams, Darrell K. Royal (head coach), QB Colt McCoy, S Earl Thomas, QB Sam Ehlinger, and many more! The men in white and burnt orange last won a National Championship in 2005.
