The History of Detroit Tigers Baseball at Comerica Park

With the Major League Baseball (MLB) Season underway, the Detroit Tigers are ready to play ball! The Tigers have been playing at Comerica Park since the early 2000’s. Speaking of Comerica Park, the venue hosted the 2005 All-Star Game along with the Home Run Derby. The ballpark is adjacent to Ford Field (home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions). Comerica Park is also located a couple blocks away from Little Caesar’s Arena (home of the NHL’s Red Wings and NBA’s Pistons). Detroit is one of the several cities where all of the professional sports teams play in the downtown center. The other cities are the following: Cleveland, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Denver, St. Louis, and Minneapolis.

Since the Tigers moved to their current home in 2000, the team played in two World Series appearances in 2006 and 2012. Detroit also played in four American League Championship Series appearances: 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013. The ballpark is notable for having a Ferris Wheel (smaller scale) and a carousel located in the venue. Comerica Park saw only one no-hitter in its history in 2007 by Justin Verlander (vs. Brewers)

The stadium almost witnessed a perfect game 2010 by Armando Galarraga (vs. Cleveland), but it was tainted by a blown call in the 9th inning. INF Miguel Cabrera won the AL Triple Crown (HRs, RBIs, Batting) & AL MVP in 2012, while RHP Michael Fulmer won the AL Rookie of the Year in 2016.
