Who Are the Sioux City Explorers? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Sioux City Explorers (based in Sioux City, Iowa) are ready to play ball! The Explorers are an Independent Baseball Team for the American Association of Professional Baseball (Partner of the MLB). In addition, Sioux City plays in the West Division for the League. The Explorers have no prior Minor League affiliation with any MLB club. The team was named after the American explorers Lewis & Clark Expedition, who traveled to the West Coast of the country. Sioux City was recognized in the historic trip because Sergeant Charles Floyd became the only expedition participant to pass away on the trip. In relation to the topic, Floyd died near Sioux City and the city has a Monument similar to the Washington Monument in Washington D.C.

Where do the Sioux City Explorers Play their Home Games? Who is the Official Mascot?

The Explorers have been playing their home games at Lewis & Clark Park since 1993. Speaking of Lewis & Clark Park, the 3,500-capacity ballpark is about a 1.5-hour drive from Sioux Falls, SD (home of the Independent Baseball’s Sioux Falls Canaries). In fact, the stadium is also about a 1-5-hour drive from Omaha, NE (home of Minor League Baseball’s Omaha Storm Chasers and the annual College World Series). Sioux City is famous for its attractions regarding the Lewis & Clark Expedition, such as the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and the Sergeant Floyd River Museum in downtown (10-minute drive from ballpark). The team’s official mascot is Slider the Black Dog.
