The History of Dbacks & Rockies Spring Training in Scottsdale
With the Spring Training Cactus League Season underway, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies are ready to play ball! Both teams have been training at the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick since 2011. Speaking of Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, the venue also serves as the home for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League. The ballpark is notable for being the first MLB-based stadium to be built on Native American land.
Salt River Fields at Talking Stick is about a 10-15 minute drive from Scottsdale Stadium, the Spring Training home of the San Francisco Giants. The Salt Rivers ballpark is also about a 10-15 minute drive from Sloan Park, the Spring Training home of the Chicago Cubs. Since the Dbacks came to the stadium in 2011, the team played in the 2023 World Series and made the playoffs two other times (2011, 2017). Meanwhile, the Rockies reached the postseason two times in 2017 and 2018.
