The History of Crimson Football at Harvard Stadium
With the College Football Season underway, the Harvard Crimson are ready for kick-off! The men in red have been playing at Harvard Stadium since the early 1900’s. Speaking of Harvard Stadium, the venue can hold at least 30,000 fans in capacity. The Crimson football venue is about a 15-20 minute drive from Boston (home of the MLB’s Red Sox, NHL’s Bruins, and NBA’s Celtics). Harvard Stadium is also about a 35-40 minute drive from Foxborough (home of the NFL’s New England Patriots). The football building is even located on the school’s campus adjacent to O’Donnell Field (baseball).
The venue served as the former home for the Boston Patriots in 1970 before relocating to Foxborough to become the New England Patriots. Recently, Harvard Stadium will be undergoing major renovations that will include new premium suites and higher seating capacity. For the Crimson program, the team last won an Ivy league championship in 2015 (shared). In fact, Harvard has won eight Ivy League titles (shared or outright) since the beginning of the 21st century. From the team’s football stadium, fans can get a glimpse of the Downtown Boston skyline.
