7 MLB Parks that Serve the Best Cuban Sandwiches

Baseball lovers passionate about adventure are on a mission to explore all thirty ballparks in North America, seeking thrilling games and incredible culinary experiences. These fans crave unique and diverse dining options at every stadium, from mouthwatering hot dogs and burgers to delectable ice cream. On certain days, they might opt for a hot and fresh Cuban Sandwich, the perfect fuel for the excitement ahead. In this article, we’ll look at the ballparks that offer the most creative and delicious versions of this classic sandwich in Major League Baseball. Please remember that food options may vary depending on concession stand availability and location.

#7 – Rogers Centre (The Catch Bar)

In Canada, the Blue Jays are highly recommended as a top attraction. They boast a lineup of talented home run hitters such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and George Springer. The Rogers Centre, where the Blue Jays play, has a retractable roof that offers a climate-controlled atmosphere, ensuring fans can enjoy the game without worrying about inclement weather. The Blue Jays have reportedly bid to host a future All-Star Game at their home stadium before 2030. Additionally, the food concessions at the Canadian ballpark offer more than just poutine.

The Cuban Sandwich is one of the unique dishes available at The Catch, located in the right field area (section 106). This hand-held favorite is one of the newest additions to the stadium’s renovated outfield district and features ham, pork, mustard, and Swiss cheese. The Catch also offers other meal selections, such as the Pressed Montreal-Style Smoked Meat Sandwich. The stand serves mac & cheese and pretzel bites for those looking for snacks.

#6 – Camden Yards (Butcher Hill Sandwich Shop)

Baltimore is a city that attracts many visitors due to its love for baseball and delicious food. The Charm City is renowned for its mouthwatering crab cakes, which can be found in almost every restaurant. The Orioles franchise offers crab cakes and seafood dishes, and they also have unique food items such as the Crab Boule Bread Ball and the Yard Dog, which features a seafood-based sauce. Recently, Baltimore has introduced a new food item that pays tribute to Cuban baseball.

Starting in 2023, the club will sell a new sandwich called The Havana. This sandwich comprises House-Smoked Pork Shoulder, Swiss Cheese, Black Forest Ham, and Yellow Mustard. The sandwich can be found at Butcher’s Hill Sandwich Shop, located in the home plate hallway (section 44). It is important to note that The Havana is served panini-style. Along with Boog’s BBQ and crab cakes, guests should consider trying the Cuban Sandwich. This new food offering is just one of the recent additions to Baltimore, joining the likes of catcher Adley Rutchsman and starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez.

#5 – Guaranteed Rate Field (Third Base Concourse)

Over the past decade, the White Sox baseball team has had a notable presence of Cuban players on and off the field. One of the most prominent examples was First Baseman Jose Abreu, who joined the team in 2014 and eventually won the AL MVP award six years later. Another notable acquisition was INF Yoan Moncada, who was obtained from Boston during the 2016-2017 off-season as part of a trade involving LHP Chris Sale. However, the earliest Cuban player to don the White Sox uniform was OF Minnie Minoso, who had the most stolen bases in the AL for three straight seasons (1951-1953).

The White Sox organization has been so inspired by Hispanic culture that they have incorporated it into their food offerings at Guaranteed Rate Field. One popular menu item is the Cuban Sandwich, which consists of ham, pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on pressed bread and can be found in the third base hallway (section 148). Additionally, fans can enjoy other Latin-inspired dishes during White Sox games, such as the Elote Mexican Corn Dog, which is in the same concourse close to section 142, and Deep-Fried Churros, which spectators can find in multiple food stands throughout the 100 Level.

#4 – Fenway Park (El Tiante on Jersey Street)

The Red Sox have been highly successful since breaking their championship drought in 2004, winning four World Series titles and playing in six AL Championship Series. From 2016 to 2018, they won three consecutive AL East Division crowns. If you visit Fenway Park, you can expect to find New England cuisine and popular items like lobster rolls and Fenway Franks. However, many may need to learn that Cuban Sandwiches are available at every homestand.

Located on Jersey Street near the home plate entrance is a food cart called El Tiante, named after Multi-All-Star Pitcher Luis Tiant. He led the American League in E.R.A. (1.91) in 1972 and played for Boston from 1971 to 1978, earning a spot in the team’s Hall of Fame. The Cuban Sandwich at El Tiante is made with shredded pork, sliced ham, yellow mustard, Swiss cheese, and pickles. Although the dish originates in Florida, it is a hidden gem at America’s Oldest Ballpark.

#3 – Target Field (Tony O’s)

Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, has hosted some thrilling sporting events in recent years. In 2014, it was the main venue for the MLB All-Star Game, which also happened to be Derek Jeter’s last as a player. Additionally, the open-air ballpark served as the location for the 2022 NHL Winter Classic, where the Wild took on the Blues. When it comes to food, one of Minneapolis’ favorite attractions is the Juicy Lucy, a hamburger with two beef patties stuffed with cheese in the middle. But did you know that the Twins Stadium also offers Cuban Sandwiches?

Spectators can find these delectable sandwiches at Tony O’s in the home plate hallway (section 114). The food stand is named after Hall of Fame OF Tony Oliva, an eight-time All-Star for Minnesota from 1962-1976. The Cuban Sandwich features Sliced Ham, Pulled Pork, Swiss Cheese, Mayonnaise, and Pickles on Panini-Toasted Bread. Customers can also locate the famous sandwich at the Delta® SKY3600 Club, which is behind home plate on level 200. In fact, during the 2021 season, Tony O’s Cuban Sandwich was a contender for best taste in the league as part of MLB’s Food Fight promotion.

#2 – Tropicana Field (Cubano’s)

The Rays have gained notoriety for producing a successful team with a low payroll in the past ten years. They made it to the World Series in 2020, only the second time in their history, and won back-to-back AL East Division titles in 2020 and 2021. Earlier in 2023, the Rays had an impressive start to the regular season, winning 12 games in a row, which was the best start in franchise history. Besides baseball, Tampa Bay is also known for the Cuban Sandwich tradition.

Cubano’s, located in the right field concourse on the ground level (sections 146-148), sells this Hispanic staple during all home games throughout the MLB season. The Rays’ version of the classic sandwich includes Sopressata Italian Salami, Black Forest Ham, Mustard, Swiss Cheese, and Pickle Spear, incorporating Tampa’s European heritage. Fans can also find this delicious treat at Level 300’s Party Deck via Ybor Station (left field). Interestingly, the Cuban Sandwich was invented in the Ybor City neighborhood near Downtown Tampa. Speaking of Ybor City, it’s also the location of a baseball museum that was once the home of former Cleveland Manager Al Lopez.

#1 – LoanDepot Park (Goya La Cocina)

Miami has recently become a famous sports city that many people want to visit. In June, the Heat basketball team made it to the NBA Finals (although they lost to the Nuggets in five games). Around the same time, the Florida Panthers also made it to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1996 (although they lost to Vegas in five games). Soccer star Lionel Messi surprised the world during the summer by joining Inter Miami CF (MLS). In addition, last year, RHP Sandy Alcantara became the first Marlins pitcher in franchise history to win the Cy Young Award. However, the most exciting moment for South Florida in the 2020s happened in the food stands.

The Miami Marlins introduced the 3-Foot Long Cubano Gigante at Goya La Cocina in Right Field (section 40). This massive sandwich weighs two-and-a-half pounds and includes Roasted Mojo Pork, Sweet Ham, Swiss Cheese, Mustard, Pickle Slices, and Latin Sauce. The Marlins recommend sharing it with friends and family because it is so big. However, anyone wanting to try the Cubano Gigante needs a bigger budget since it costs around $50.00 per order. This unique snack resembles other bizarre bites offered at MLB parks, such as the Boomstick Dog (Rangers) and Churro Dog (Diamondbacks).
