The History of Washington Nationals Baseball at Nationals Park

With the Major League Baseball (MLB) Season underway, the Washington Nationals are ready to play ball! The Nationals have been playing at Nationals Park since 2008. Speaking of Nationals Park, the venue hosted the 2018 All-Star Game along with the 2015 NHL Winter Classic (Capitals vs. Blackhawks). The ballpark is about a 5-10 minute drive from Capital One Arena (home of the NHL’s Capitals and NBA’s Wizards). Nationals Park is also about a 1.0-hour drive from Baltimore (home of the MLB’s Orioles and NFL’s Ravens).

Since the Nationals moved to their current home in 2008, the team won a World Series championship in 2019. Washington also played in five playoff appearances: 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019. The baseball team was formerly known as the Montreal Expos from Quebec from 1968 until 2004. Nationals Park saw two no-hitters in its history: 2014 by Jordan Zimmerman (vs. Marlins) and 2015 by Max Scherzer (vs. Pirates). Speaking of Scherzer, the right-hander won two NL Cy Young Awards in 2016 and 2017. The Washington club also witnessed two NL Manager of the Year winners in Davey Johnson (2012) and Matt Williams (2014). OF Bryce Harper went on to win the 2015 NL MVP Trophy.
