The History of Blue Jays Spring Training at TD Ballpark

When the Spring Training Grapefruit League Season comes, the Toronto Blue Jays are ready to play ball! The Blue Jays have been training at TD Ballpark since 1990. Speaking of TD Ballpark, the venue is also the home of the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League-Single-A (formerly Low-A). Most importantly, Toronto has been training in Dunedin since the franchise’s inception back tin 1977. The Dunedin home is a 15-20 minute drive from Baycare Ballpark, the Spring Training site for the Philadelphia Phillies & home of the Clearwater Threshers (Single-A).

Since the Blue Jays came to the stadium in 1990, the team won two World Series championships in 1992 and 1993. Since the year 2010, Toronto has been to the American League Championship Series in 2015 and 2016. In 2019, the ballpark underwent renovations that included the following: new team store, a 360 walkway around the park (boardwalk for the outfield concourse), and new main entrance. Before its current name, the Spring Training Stadium was formerly known as the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. In 2021, the Dunedin ballpark hosted MLB regular season games for Toronto (April-May) due to the global pandemic. Even the Los Angeles Angels made an ultra-rare appearance at TD Ballpark in April 2021.
