You have officially arrived at Steinbrenner Field, which is the Spring Training home for the 2025 New York Yankees. The stadium is located at Tampa, Florida, a 40-45 minute drive from Lakeland. The Bronx Bombers have trained at Steinbrenner Field since 1996 after the team spent the previous 32 years in Fort Lauderdale. Before the current name, the stadium was formerly known as Legends Field from its opening until the 2008 season. The stadium was named in honor of the late George Steinbrenner, who owned the club from 1973 until 2010. Now that the 2025 Grapefruit League season is around the corner, the defending American League champions are looking for their first World Series championship since 2009. In fact, New York is looking to win its 28th MLB title in franchise history and the 3rd since the 2000s. And most importantly, Steinbrenner Field has some exciting fan events in store to officially start off Spring Training in 2025.
Upcoming New York Yankees 2025 Grapefruit League Fan Experience:
The Inside Experience 2025
Since its debut in 2016, the Yankees have been offering behind-the-scenes events focusing on NYY Spring Training in Tampa. The Inside Experience lets fans receive autographs and photo opportunities with a current and former player. This special moment also includes a breakfast or lunch buffet at the stadium, a season preview show, a lower level game ticket, and batting practice viewing. Fans will also get to visit the home dugout and pose for pictures with the World Series trophy. Past appearances from Yankees players and team personnel were Nick Swisher, Bernie Williams, Gary Sanchez, Sonny Gray, Jordan Montgomery, Tito Martinez, Jack Curry, Andrew Miller, Nathan Eovaldi, J.A. Happ, Alex Verdugo, and GM Brian Cashman.
For the upcoming season, there are four chances to take part in the Inside Experience: Sun. February 23 vs. Tigers, Fri. March 7 vs. Blue Jays (night), Mon. March 10 vs. Detroit, and Tues. March 18 vs. Red Sox. Each package starts at $500 per person and it consists of credentials, game tickets, and itinerary. Once guests arrive at the ballpark on game day, they will register just outside the main entrance to the GMS Field administrative offices. UPDATE: Most of the selected home contests are now sold out, so check back for availability.
Open Player Workouts at Steinbrenner Field
A favorite from last year is making a return for the 2025 Grapefruit League campaign. Beginning on Wednesday, February 12, fans are permitted to attend open player workouts at the stadium on non-game days. Admission and parking on the main lot is free and the team store will be available for new Yankees merchandise. It’s also possible that the main concourse concession stands would also be open. The workout event start times vary ranging from 10:00 A.M. or 12:00 P.M. until the sessions end.
Special Giveaways at Yankees Spring Training
In 2025, the Yankees will give away team-branded items on select home contests via the Special Event Package. Anyone who purchases a themed deal can receive access to a promotional item of his or her choice. The team has four such items available for Spring Training: Jerry Garcia Grateful Dead Jersey, NYY Hat with Graduation Cap Hat Tassel, New York Golf Driver Headcover, or a Bronx Bombers Lunch Bag. Fans can retrieve any of those giveaways on a first-come, first-serve basis at Guest Services close to Gate 2 and adjacent to sections 110/2010. Here are the five games selected in the Special Event Package to choose from: Wed. February 26 vs. Cardinals, Mon. March 3 vs. Pirates, Mon. March 10 vs. Tigers, Tues. March 11 vs. Orioles, and Wed. March 19 vs. Braves.
Night Games at Steinbrenner Field in 2025
Those who don’t want to deal with the Florida sun are in for a treat. For this year, GMS Field plans to host five games under the lights. All of those home contests would start at 6:35 P.M. first pitch. Here are the five Yankees Spring Training night games for 2025: Fri. February 28 vs. Toronto, Mon. March 3 vs. Pittsburgh, Fri. March 7 vs. Blue Jays, Fri. March 14 vs. Phillies, and Wed. March 19 vs. Atlanta.
Ballpark Renovations During the Off-Season
During the winter break, the Bronx Bombers made some improvements regarding the players’ indoor workout experience. When the Yankees report to Tampa later in February, they will see a new building on the first base side that contains the following: weight room, medical & training facilities, family lounge, inside/outside dining area, and female locker room. In fact, the ballpark also received a new clubhouse kitchen as well as multi-purpose meeting rooms and remodeled administrative offices.
GMS Field’s Plans for the 2025 MLB Regular Season
This year is going to be different in terms of how the spring home of the Yankees will be used. Once the team wraps up Grapefruit League ball and heads up north to the Big Apple, another team will use the stadium for regular season home games. That’s because the Tampa Bay Rays plan to set up shop outdoors in Tampa as a result of Tropicana Field’s roof damage from Hurricane Milton last October. The Rays chose Steinbrenner Field because of its seating capacity of over 11,000 and still local in the Tampa Bay area.
To accommodate the situation, the ballpark’s other tenant (Tampa Tarpons) will host games at the adjacent Community Field (1st Base side) with about 1,000 seats. In addition, the Yankees will be the visiting team and will dress uniforms in the 3rd base dugout. Meanwhile, the Rays are permitted to use the 1st base dugout, the main scoreboard, and temporary signage in the concourse & venue. The George Steinbrenner Statue and the 9/11 Memorial behind home plate will remain in place.
