The History of West Virginia Football at Milan Puskar Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the West Virginia Mountaineers are ready for kick-off! The men in Yellow and Blue have been playing at Milan Puskar Stadium since the early-1980’s. Speaking of Milan Puskar Stadium, the venue can hold at least 60,000 fans in attendance. West Virginia’s football venue is about a 10-15 minute drive from Monongalia County Park (home of Minor League Baseball’s West Virginia Black Bears). Milan Puskar Stadium is also located on the West Virginia University campus. The school’s football stadium was named after local WV businessman Milan Puskar (who donated funds for the university’s athletics program).
Since its opening, the Mountaineers football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Dana Holgorsen (head coach), QB Will Grier, WR David Sills, P Pat McAfee, QB Major Harris (Heisman Finalist), Don Nehlen (head coach), and many more! The men in Yellow and Blue last won a Conference Championship in 2011 (shared). Recently, the Mountaineers won the 2020 Liberty Bowl vs. Army.
