With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Wichita Wind Surge (based in Wichita, Kansas) are ready to play ball! The Wind Surge are a Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. In addition, they play in the North Division for the Double-A Central League. The Wind Surge have been an affiliate for the Twins since 2021. The Wichita franchise relocated from New Orleans following the 2019 season as a Triple-A club for the Miami Marlins. However, Minor League Baseball’s 2020 campaign was cancelled (global health crisis) without Wichita playing a single game as a Triple-A team. Also, the MLB’s farm team reorganization forced the Wind Surge to part with the Marlins and join the Twins as a Double-A franchise.
Where do the Wichita Wind Surge Play their Home Games? Who is the Official Mascot?
The Wind Surge have been playing their home games at Riverfront Stadium (not to be confused with the Cincinnati Reds’ former home) since 2021. Speaking of Riverfront Stadium, the 12,000-capacity ballpark is located in Downtown Wichita near the Arkansas River. In fact, the ballpark has plans for a future baseball museum showcasing Wichita’s history with America’s national pastime. The team’s official mascot is Windy the Pegasus (flying horse).
