In addition, they play in the Central Division for the Western Conference. The Nailers have been an affiliate for the Penguins since 1997. Wheeling played in the 2016 Kelly Cup Finals, but lost to the Allen Americans (based in Texas). The team was formerly known as the Wheeling Thunderbirds from 1992 until 1996.
