Who Are the West Virginia Black Bears? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the West Virginia Black Bears (based in Granville, WV) are ready to play ball! The Black Bears are an Independent Baseball Team for College Baseball’s Top Prospects. In addition, they play in the MLB Draft League (no divisions). The Black Bears were a Class-A affiliate for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2015 until 2020. The Minor League Team was formerly known as the Jamestown Jammers (based in New York) from 1994 until 2014. West Virginia’s baseball team was named after the fact that Black Bear is the official state animal.

Where do the West Virginia Black Bears Play their Home Games? Who is the Official Mascot?

The Black Bears have been playing their home games at Monongalia County Ballpark since 2015. Speaking of Monongalia County Ballpark, the 3,500-capacity ballpark is located in Granville near the Monongahela River. In fact, the stadium is also close to West Virginia University in Morgantown (home of the West Virginia Mountaineers). Monongalia County Ballpark is also the home of the West Virginia Mountaineers baseball program. The team’s official mascot is Cooper the Black Bear (named after Cooperstown-NY, the Home of the Baseball Hall of Fame). The Black Bears also have the Racing Pepperoni Rolls that race across the field during games.
