The History of Virginia Tech Football at Lane Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Virginia Tech Hokies are ready for kick-off! The men in Burnt Orange and Chicago Maroon have been playing at Lane Stadium since the mid-1960’s. Speaking of Lane Stadium, the venue can hold at least 60,000 fans in attendance. Virginia Tech’s football venue is about a 2.0-hour drive from Lynchburg (home of the Lynchburg Hillcats of Minor League Baseball). Lane Stadium is also located on the Virginia Polytechnic Institute campus. The school’s football stadium was named after Virginia Tech Alumni Edward H. Lane (who donated funds for the venue’s development).
Since its opening, the Hokies football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Frank Beamer (head coach), QB Michael Vick, DB DeAngelo Hall, S Kam Chancellor, Justin Fuente (head coach), QB Tyrod Taylor, and many more! The men in Burnt Orange and Chicago Maroon last won an ACC Conference Championship in 2010. Recently, the Hokies played in the ACC Championship Game in 2016. Virginia Tech reached the National Championship Game during the 1999 season, but lost to Bobby Bowden and the Florida State Seminoles.
