The History of Cavs Basketball at John Paul Jones Arena

With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Cavaliers are ready for tip-off! The men in orange and navy blue have been playing at John Paul Jones Arena since the mid-2000’s. Speaking of John Paul Jones Arena, the venue can hold over 14,000 fans in capacity. The Cavaliers basketball venue is about a 1.5-hour drive from Richmond (home of Minor League Baseball’s Richmond Flying Squirrels). The basketball building is also located on the school’s campus not far from Davenport Field at Disharoom Park (baseball). 

The arena has a court that is named in honor of stadium donor and alumni Paul Tudor Jones’ father, John Paul Jones (who is also a graduate). Also, the name is not to be confused with Led Zeppelin guitar player John Paul Jones. For men’s basketball, the Cavs last won a national championship in 2019. Meanwhile, the women’s squad recently played in the Sweet 16 in 2000. The men’s program took part in the March Madness eight times since 2010, while the women’s team only made two such appearances during that span.
