The History of Commodores Football at FirstBank Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Vanderbilt Commodores are ready for kick-off! The men in Black and Gold have been playing at FirstBank Stadium since the early-1920’s. Speaking of FirstBank Stadium, the venue can hold at least 40,000 fans in attendance. The Commodores’ football venue is about a 5-10 minute drive from Downtown Nashville (home of the NFL’s Titans, NHL’s Predators, and Minor League Baseball’s Sounds). FirstBank Stadium is also located on the Vanderbilt University campus. The school’s football stadium is also about a 3.0-hour drive from Knoxville (home of the Tennessee Volunteers).
The Commodores venue was previously known as Vanderbilt Stadium from 1981 until 2022. Since its opening, the Commodores football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: James Franklin (head coach), QB Jay Cutler, WR Jordan Matthews, CB Casey Hayward, Derek Mason (head coach), and many more! The men in Black and Gold has yet to appear in the SEC Championship Game. Fortunately, the Commodores have played in five bowl games since the 2011 season.
