The History of Michigan Wolverines Basketball at Crisler Center
With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Michigan Wolverines are ready for tip-off! The men in blue and maize have been playing at Crisler Center since the late-1960’s. Speaking of Crisler Center, the venue can hold nearly 13,000 fans in capacity. The Wolverines basketball venue is about a 45-50 minute drive from Detroit (home of the MLB’s Tigers, NHL’s Red Wings, NBA’s Pistons, and NFL’s Lions). Crisler Center is also located just a couple miles from the University of Michigan’s main campus. The arena was named after former Wolverines Football Head Coach/Athletic Director Herbert “Fritz” Crisler. The men in blue and maize last won a National Championship in 1989. In fact, the Wolverines have played in two National Championship Games in 2013 and 2018. Meanwhile, the women’s basketball squad has reached the NCAA Tournament five times since 2012.
