The History of UGA Bulldogs Football at Sanford Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Georgia Bulldogs are ready for kick-off! The men in red and black have been playing at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium since the late 1920’s. Speaking of Sanford Stadium, the venue can hold at least 90,000 fans in attendance. The Georgia Bulldogs football venue is about a 1.5-hour drive from Atlanta (home of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, MLB’s Braves, NBA’s Hawks, NFL’s Falcons, and WNBA’s Dream). Sanford Stadium is also located on the University of Georgia campus. The school’s football stadium was named after former Athletics Chairman/University President Steadman Vincent Sanford and Ex-Bulldogs Head Coach Vince Dooley.
Since its opening, the Georgia Bulldogs football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Kirby Smart (head coach), QB Jake Fromm, WR A.J. Green, RB Nick Chubb, Vince Dooley (head coach), QB Matthew Stafford, RB Herschel Walker, and many more! The men in red and black recently won back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022. Also, the UGA Bulldogs played in the 2018 National Championship Game (lost to Alabama).
