The History of UCLA Bruins Basketball at Pauley Pavilion
With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Bruins are ready for tip-off! The men in light blue and yellow have been playing at Pauley Pavilion since the mid-1960’s. Speaking of Pauley Pavilion, the venue can hold nearly 14,000 fans in capacity. The Bruins basketball venue is about a 0.5-hour drive from University of Southern California (home of the USC Trojans). The basketball building is also located on the school’s campus adjacent to Drake Stadium (track & soccer).
The arena was named in honor of former university regent member and arena contributor Edwin W. Pauley. Also, there is a statue of longtime coach John Wooden (who led UCLA to ten national titles) located outside the venue. For men’s basketball, the Bruins last won a national championship in 1995. Meanwhile, the women’s squad recently played in the Elite 8 in 2018. The men’s program took part in the March Madness eight times since 2010, while the women’s team made eight such appearances during that span.
