Now that the 2021 MLB Season is almost here, now is the time to start speculating in terms of which General Managers (GM) will be on the hot seat. Even though 2021 Opening Day is not long from now, it’s never too early to evaluate each GM’s situation entering the new season. First, let’s reveal which general managers appeared to be safe from the hot seat:

GMs that are SAFE from the Hot Seat

A.J. Preller (Padres)

  • 1st Playoff Appearance Since 2006 (Snapped 3rd Longest Drought in the MLB)
  • Acquired LHP Blake Snell and RHP Yu Darvish in the Off-Season

Erik Neander (Rays)

  • Won 1st American League Pennant Since 2008
  • Consecutive Playoff Appearances for the First Time Since 2010-2011
  • Traded LHP Blake Snell to Padres in the Off-Season

Alex Anthopoulos (Braves)

  • Won 1st Playoff Series Since 2001
  • Back-to-Back Postseason Appearances for 1st Time Since 2012-2013
  • Signed RHP Charlie Morton in the Off-Season

Rick Hahn (White Sox)

  • 1st Playoff Appearance Since 2008
  • Hired Tony Las Russa as Manager in the Off-Season
  • Acquired RHP Lance Lynn in the Off-Season

Warm Seat (10-6)

10. David Stearns (Brewers)

  • GM for Brewers Since 2015
  • Lost 2020 Wild Card Series to Eventual World Champion Dodgers
  • Has Not Won a Playoff Series Since 2018 NLDS
  • If Brewers Fail to Improve in 2021, Stearns Could be Fired

9. Mike Chernoff (Cleveland)

  • GM for Cleveland Since 2016
  • Lost 2020 Wild Card Series vs. Yankees
  • Traded INF Francisco Lindor and RHP Carlos Carrasco to Mets in the Off-Season
  • Team Has Not Won a Playoffs Since 2016 ALCS

  • If Nationals Fail to Make the Playoffs in 2021, Rizzo Could be Fired

7. Ross Atkins (Blue Jays)
