The History of Toledo Football at Glass Bowl Stadium
With the College Football Season underway, the Rockets are ready for kick-off! The men in yellow and dark blue have been playing at Glass Bowl Stadium since the late 1930’s. Speaking of Glass Bowl Stadium, the venue can hold at least 26,000 fans in capacity. The Toledo football venue is about a 10-15 minute drive from Downtown Toledo (home of Triple-A Baseball’s Mud Hens and ECHL Hockey’s Walleye). Glass Bowl Stadium is also about a 1.0-hour drive from Detroit (home of the NFL’s Lions, NHL’s Red Wings, NBA’s Pistons, and MLB’s Tigers). The football building is even located on the school’s campus adjacent to the Students’ Recreation Center.
The venue was named after the fact that Toledo is known for being one of the top glass industry cities in America. In fact, the stadium underwent renovations in 2016 that saw new ticket booths and restrooms. For the Rockets program, the team last won a MAC Conference championship in 2017. In addition, Toledo has participated in nine college bowl games since 2010. However, the Rockets have not won a bowl game since the 2015 Boca Raton Bowl vs. Temple.
