The History of Volunteers Football at Neyland Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Tennessee Volunteers are ready for kick-off! The men in Orange and White have been playing at Neyland Stadium since the early-1920’s. Speaking of Neyland Stadium, the venue can hold at least 100,000 fans in attendance. The Vols football venue is about a 2.5-hour drive from Nashville (home of the NHL’s Predators, the NFL’s Titans, and Triple-A Baseball’s Sounds). Neyland Stadium is also located on the University of Tennessee campus. The school’s football stadium was named after Volunteers Head Coach Robert Neyland (who guided Tennessee to Four National Championships).
Since its opening, the Vols football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Phillip Fulmer (head coach), QB Peyton Manning, TE Jason Witten, WR Alvin Kamara, RB Arian Foster, Johnny Majors (head coach), DE Reggie White, S Eric Berry, and many more! The men in Orange and White last won a National Championship in 1998. Also, the Volunteers recently played in the SEC Championship Game in 2007.
