The History of Los Angeles Angels Spring Training in Tempe
With the Spring Training Cactus League Season underway, the Los Angeles Angels are ready to play ball! The Halos have been training at the Tempe Diablo Stadium since 1993. Speaking of Tempe Diablo Stadium, the venue served as the former Spring Training home of the Seattle Mariners (1977-1993) and Milwaukee Brewers (1971-1972). The Angels’ facility is currently the oldest Cactus League stadium in the big leagues. Tempe Diablo Stadium is about a 15-20 minute drive from Hohokam Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Oakland Athletics. The Angels’ facility is also about a 15-20 minute drive from Sloan Park, the Spring Training home of the Chicago Cubs. Since the Halos came to the stadium in 1993, the team won the 2002 World Series. The Angels also played in three ALCS appearances (2002, 2005, 2009) along with their recent playoff appearance in 2014.
