The History of TCU Horned Frogs Football at Amon G. Carter Stadium

With the College Football Season around the corner, the TCU Horned Frogs are ready for kick-off! The men in Purple and White have been playing at Amon G. Carter Stadium since the early-1930’s. Speaking of Amon G. Cater Stadium, the venue can hold at least 45,000 fans in attendance. TCU’s football venue is about a 30-minute drive from Dallas (home of the NHL’s Stars and NBA’s Mavericks). Amon G. Carter Stadium is also located on the Texas Christian University campus. The school’s football stadium was named after local newspaper entrepreneur Amon G. Carter (who played a major role in developing the stadium).

Since its opening, the Horned Frogs football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Gary Patterson (head coach), QB Trevone Boykin, RB LaDainian Tomlinson, QB Davey O’Brien (Heisman Winner), Dutch Meyer (head coach), QB Andy Dalton, and many more! The men in Purple and White last won a National Championship in 1938. Recently, the Horned Frogs won a Big 12 Title (shared) in 2014. Since 2010, the TCU football program has played in three New Year’s Bowl Games (including a Peach Bowl victory in 2014)
