The History of Tampa Bay Rowdies Soccer at Al Lang Stadium

With the USL Championship Season underway, the Tampa Bay Rowdies are ready for action! The Rowdies have been playing at Al Lang Stadium since 2011. Speaking of Al Lang Stadium (formerly known as Progress Energy Park), the venue was the Spring Training site for the Tampa Bay Rays from 1998 until 2008. The stadium is about a 5-10 minute drive from the Tropicana Field (home of the 2020 AL Champion Rays). Al Lang Stadium is also about a 0.5-hour drive from Tampa (home of the 2020/2021 Stanley Cup Champion Lightning and 2020 Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers).

Since the Rowdies moved to their current home in 2011, the team won a Soccer Bowl Championship (2012) and an Eastern Conference Title (2020). Tampa Bay has also reached the playoffs five times: 2011, 2012, 2017, 2019, 2020. The soccer stadium was named after former St. Petersburg Mayor Al Lang (who played a major role in bringing baseball to Florida).
