With the Minor League Hockey Season underway, the Spokane Chiefs are ready to drop the puck! The Chiefs are an independent affiliate of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In fact, the WHL is one of the three leagues in the Canadian Hockey League along with the Quebec Major Junior League and the Ontario Hockey League. The Chiefs have been playing in the WHL since 1985. Spokane won two Memorial Cups in their franchise history: 1991 and 2008. In addition, the Chiefs hosted an outdoor game in 2011 at Avista Stadium (where they defeated the Kooteny Ice 11-2). Since 2010, Spokane has reached the WHL Playoffs eight times.

The Chiefs have been playing their home games at Spokane Arena since 1995. Speaking of Spokane Arena, the 10,000-capacity arena is located close to Downtown Spokane. Spokane Arena is also about a 4.5-hour drive from Seattle (home of the NHL’s Kraken, MLB’s Mariners, WNBA’s Storm, and NFL’s Seahawks). The team’s main mascot is Boomer the Brown Bear.
