Who Are the South Bend Cubs? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the South Bend Cubs (based in South Bend, IN) are ready to play ball! The South Bend franchise is a High-A Team affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. In addition, they play in the West Division for the High-A Central League. The South Bend club has been an affiliate for the Cubs since 2015. The team was formerly known as the South Bend Silver Hawks from 1994 until 2014. In fact, the South Bend franchise previous partnered with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 1998 until 2014.

The South Bend Cubs have been playing their home games at Four Winds Field at Covelski Stadium since 1987. Speaking of Four Winds Field, the 5,000-capacity ballpark is located in South Bend (Indiana) not far from the St. Joseph River. The stadium is also not far from the University of Notre Dame campus (home of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football). Four Winds Field at Covelski Stadium was named after Baseball Hall of Famer and South Bend Resident Stan Covelski. The ballpark is also about a 2-hour drive from Chicago. The team’s official mascots are Stu the Cub and Swoop the Hawk.
