The History of Seattle Kraken Hockey at Climate Pledge Arena

With the NHL Hockey season underway, the Seattle Kraken are ready for puck-drop! The Kraken have been playing home games at Climate Pledge Arena since 2021. Speaking of Climate Pledge Arena, the venue can hold nearly 18,000 hockey fans in capacity. The team’s venue is located just a couple blocks from the Space Needle. Climate Pledge Arena is also about a 10-minute drive from T-Mobile Park and Lumen Field (home of the MLB’s Mariners, NFL’s Seahawks, and MLS Soccer’s Sounders FC, respectively).

The Kraken became the newest edition of the NHL as the league’s 32nd team. Seattle is the second expansion franchise to form in the NHL and the first since the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017. Climate Pledge Arena was formerly known as KeyArena from 1995 to 2018. The Kraken won its first playoff series win in 2023 by defeating the Avalanche in the first round. The venue is also the home of the WNBA’s Seattle Storm and the former site of the NBA’s SuperSonics. In 2008, the Seattle franchise relocated to the Midwest to become the Oklahoma City Thunder.
