The History of San Francisco Giants Spring Training in Scottsdale

With the Spring Training Cactus League Season underway, the San Francisco Giants are ready to play ball! The Giants have been training at the Scottsdale Stadium since 1984. Speaking of Scottsdale Stadium, the venue is also the home of the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League. The Giants’ facility is currently one of the oldest Cactus League stadium in the big leagues. Scottsdale Stadium is about a 10-15 minute drive from Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, the Spring Training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

The team’s facility is also about a 15-20 minute drive from Hohokam Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Oakland Athletics. Since the Giants came to the stadium in 1984, the team won three World Series championships (2010, 2012, 2014). San Francisco also reached the 2002 World Series, but lost to the Los Angeles Angels in seven games. The men in orange recently made the postseason in 2021 with an NL West Division title.
