The Schaumburg franchise is one of the couple professional baseball teams that play not far from Chicago along with the Joliet Slammers (Frontier League), Gary SouthShore Railcats (American Association) and Chicago Dogs (American Association). The Boomers’ bird theme came from the Greater Prairie Chicken’s alternative name (Boomer), which is mainly found in the Midwest.

The Boomers have been playing their home games at Wintrust Field since 2012. Speaking of Wintrust Field, the 7,500-capacity ballpark is about a 35-40 minute drive from Chicago (home of the MLB’s Cubs/White Sox, NHL’s Blackhawks, NBA’s Bulls, and NFL’s Bears). In fact, the stadium is also about a 45-50 minute drive from Joliet, IL (home of the Frontier League’s Joliet Slammers). The venue was formerly known as Boomers Stadium (2011-2020) and Alexian Field (2000-2011). The team’s official mascot is Coop the Boomer.
