The History of San Jose Sharks Hockey at SAP Center

With the NHL Hockey season underway, the San Jose Sharks are ready for puck-drop! The Sharks have been playing home games at SAP Center since 1993. Speaking of SAP Center, the venue can hold at least 17,000 hockey fans in capacity. The team’s venue is about a 1.0-hour drive from San Francisco (home of the MLB’s Giants and NBA’s Warriors). SAP Center is also about a 2.0-hour drive from Sacramento (home of the NBA’s Kings and Triple-A Baseball’s River Cats).

The arena was previously known as HP Pavilion from 2002 until 2013. The Sharks reached the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals, but lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games. Since 2004, San Jose has played in the Western Conference Finals five times (2004, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2019). The men in teal are seeking their first playoff appearance since 2019.
