The History of San Francisco Giants Baseball at Oracle Park
With the Major League Baseball (MLB) Season underway, the San Francisco Giants are ready to play ball! The Giants have been playing at Oracle Park since 2000. Speaking of Oracle Park (formerly AT&T Park), the venue hosted the 2007 MLB All-Star Game along with the Home Run Derby. The stadium is about a 15-20 minute drive from the Oakland Coliseum (home of the AL’s Oakland Athletics). Oracle Park is also about a 1.0-hour drive from San Jose (home of the NHL’s Sharks, MLS’ Earthquakes, and Minor League Baseball’s SJ Giants).
Since the Giants moved to their current home in 2000, the team won three World Series championships (2010, 2012, 2014). San Francisco has also played in the 2002 Fall Classic (lost to Angels in seven games) along with eight playoff appearances: 2000, 2002, 2003, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2021. Oracle Park is notable for the McCovey Cove, where home runs are sometimes hit in the waters filled with kayaks trying to catch a ball.
