The History of Rutgers Scarlett Knights Football at SHI Stadium

With the College Football Season around the corner, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are ready for kick-off! The men in Red and White have been playing at SHI Stadium since the mid-1990’s. Speaking of SHI Stadium, the venue can hold at least 50,000 fans in attendance. The Scarlet Knights’ football venue is about a 50-minute drive from New York City (home of the MLB’s Yankees/Mets, NHL’s Randers/Islanders, NBA’s Knicks/Nets, and NFL’s Giants/Jets). Shi Stadium is also located on the Rutgers University campus. The school is notable for being the official site of the very first college football game played in America.

In the past, the Scarlet Knights football program has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Greg Schiano (head coach), DT Eric LeGrand, WR Mohamed Sanu, RB Ray Rice, Frank Burns (head coach), and many more! The men in Red and White last won a Conference Championship during the 2012 season (shared). However, the Scarlet Knights have not played in a bowl game since the 2014 season.
