With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Quincy Gems (based in Quincy, IL) are ready to play ball! The Gems are an Independent Baseball Team for the Prospect League (College Summer Baseball Organization). In addition, Quincy plays in the Great River Division for the West Conference. The Gems have no prior Minor League affiliation with any MLB club. However, the city of Quincy had a history of Minor League partnerships with its former teams: Quincy Jets (San Francisco Giants: 1960-1961), Quincy Jets (New York Mets: 1962-1963), and Quincy Cubs (Chicago Cubs: 1964-1973). The Quincy Gems are named after the city’s nickname: The Gem City.

The Gems have been playing their home games at QU Stadium since the mid-1990’s. Speaking of QU Stadium, the 3,000-capacity ballpark is located not far from the Illinois/Missouri state line. In fact, the stadium is also about a 2.5-hour drive from St. Louis (home of the MLB’s Cardinals and NHL’s Blues). QU Stadium is just a couple blocks away from the Quincy University campus. The team’s official mascot is Gem Bird.
