The History of Purdue Basketball at Mackey Arena

With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Purdue Boilermakers are ready for tip-off! The men in Black and Gold have been playing at Mackey Arena since the late-1960’s. Speaking of Mackey Arena, the venue can hold at least 14,000 fans in capacity. The Boilermakers’ football venue is about a 1.5-hour drive from Downtown Indianapolis (home of the NFL’s Colts, NBA’s Pacers, and WNBA’s Fever). Mackey Arena is also located on the Purdue University campus. The school’s basketball stadium was named after Purdue Athletic Director Guy “Red” Mackey (1942-1971). The men in Black and Gold last played in the National Championship Game in 1969. Since 2010, Purdue has reached the Men’s Sweet Sixteen four times (2010, 2017, 2018, 2019). Meanwhile, the women’s program won a National Title in 1999 and played in the 2001 National Championship Game.
