You have officially arrived at LECOM Park, which is the Spring Training home for the 2025 Pittsburgh Pirates. The stadium is located at Bradenton, Florida, a 30-40 minute drive from St. Petersburg. The Buccos have trained at LECOM Park since 1969 after the team spent the previous 13 years at the defunct Terry Park in Fort Myers. Before the Pirates came to town, LECOM Park was the Grapefruit League site for the KC/OAK Athletics (1963-1968) and BOS/MIL Braves (1948-1962). The stadium was formerly known as McKechnie Field (1962-2017), named after Pirates manager and Bradenton resident Bill McKechnie. Now that the 2025 Grapefruit League season is getting close, the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to end their nine-year playoff drought that began in 2016. And most importantly, LECOM Park has some exciting fan events in store to officially start off Spring Training in 2025.

Upcoming Pittsburgh Pirates 2025 Grapefruit League Fan Experience:

Pirates Spring Training Block Party 2025

The “welcome back team” event will take place on Saturday, February 15 from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Eastern Time. This free celebration is located at Old Main Street in Downtown Bradenton. In addition, the team will provide player autographs along with interactive games and prizes. The Pirates will also include an appearance from the Pirate Parrot and a live music concert from Yesterdayze.

Pregame Alumni Autographs at LECOM Park

On select days throughout the Grapefruit League season, the Pirates will offer autographs from their former players and coaches before first pitch. For the 2025 campaign, there will be five such autograph opportunities for fans to keep an eye on. The afternoon game sessions will happen from 11:30 A.M. until 12:15 P.M., while the night contests will range from 4:30 P.M. to 5:15 P.M. Here are the participating alumni autograph signers for this year: Gold Glove Winner Mike LaValliere (Sun. February 23 vs. MIN), former Color Commentator Steve Blass (Sun, March 2 vs. DET), HOF Manager Jim Leyland (Fri. March 14 vs. DET), NL Manager of the Year Clint Hurdle (Sat. March 15 vs. BAL), and All-Star RHP Bob Walk (Sat. March 22 vs. BAL).

Pirates Stadium Giveaways

The boys from the Steel City will provide two stadium giveaways for all ticket holders to take home. The first one will be on Wednesday, March 5 (vs. Blue Jays), where the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Pirates Spring Training 2025 Tote Bag. Meanwhile, the second giveaway takes place on LECOM Park Day on Saturday, March 15 (vs. Orioles). For that day, the first 1,500 guests will get access to the Pittsburgh Toothbrush. Since both games begin at 1:05 P.M. first pitch, those with tickets are encouraged to enter the gates at around 11:35 A.M.

2025 Theme Days at LECOM Park

In addition to giveaways and pregame alumni autographs, the stadium will host special theme days for some of the home contests in Bradenton. On Tuesday, February 25 (vs. Braves), the Pirates will honor their spring home’s Negro League Baseball legacy by commemorating the Bradenton Nine Devils. Military Appreciation Day will occur on Wednesday, February 26 (vs. BAL), while Youth Baseball & Softball Celebration will take place on Sunday, March 2 (vs. DET). Later in the month, the ballpark will acknowledge First Responders for their commitment to the city on Monday, March 10 (vs. BAL). All fans should wear green shirts and hats as part of St. Patrick’s Day on Monday, March 17 vs. Twins. And last but not least, the Buccos will let children run around the bases during post-game on weekend home games. For the 2025 season, there will be four Kids Run the Bases dates: Sun. February 23 vs. Twins, Sun. March 2 vs. Tigers, Sat. March 15 vs. Orioles, and Sat. March 22 vs. BAL.

Season Ticket Holder Tour & Tailgate Party

On Friday, March 14 vs. Detroit, the Pittsburgh Pirates will show appreciation to the season ticket holders by dedicating the day to them. The experience will begin with a special breakfast before a guided tour of Pirate City, the team’s workout complex. Before the Buccos’s night game against the Tigers, there will be a pre-game tailgate party at Motorworks Brewing just a couple blocks from LECOM Park. Those who are participating in the event must do the following: (1) show evidence of Florida residency or travel plans (hotel or airfare) and (2) develop their own travel accommodations. Also to be aware of is that game tickets for that day can be provided upon request.

If the March 14 game ends up with a rainout, then the Season Ticket Holder Appreciation event would be pushed to Saturday, March 15 vs. Orioles. The only downside to the potential makeup is that the pre-game tailgate would not be available for that Saturday. UPDATE: This experience is now sold out and only given to season ticket holders via RSVP Form.

LECOM Park’s Recovery from Hurricane Milton

Tropicana Field in St. Pete is not the only baseball stadium to suffer damage from the Category 5 storm. When Milton came to the Tampa Bay area last October, the Pirates’ spring home needed repairs in time for the upcoming Grapefruit League season. At LECOM Park, the hurricane tore apart the venue’s outfield walls, the black shade coverings underneath the left field bleacher seats, and the batter’s eye. Meanwhile, the Pirate City workout complex saw its fencing between practice fields being blown down by the strong winds. But fortunately, the repairs are expected to be completed in time for the Buccos’ spring home opener on Sun. February 23 vs. Minnesota.
