You have officially arrived at Ed Smith Stadium, which is the Spring Training home for the 2025 Baltimore Orioles. The stadium is located at Sarasota, Florida, a 15-20 minute drive from Bradenton. The Orange Birds have trained at Ed Smith Stadium since 2010 after the team spent the previous 13 years in Fort Lauderdale. Before the O’s came to town, the ballpark was the former spring site for the Cincinnati Reds (1998-2009) and Chicago White Sox (1989-1997). Now that the 2025 Grapefruit League season is around the corner, the defending AL Wild Card winners are seeking their first postseason victory since 2014. In fact, Baltimore is looking for its first MLB championship since 1983. And most importantly, Ed Smith Stadium has some exciting fan events in store to officially start off Spring Training in 2025.
Upcoming Baltimore Orioles 2025 Grapefruit League Fan Experience:
Postgame Fireworks at Ed Smith Stadium
For one day only during the upcoming Grapefruit League season, the O’s will host a postgame firework show in Sarasota. That event will take place on Friday, March 21 (6:05 P.M. First Pitch) when the team faces the Detroit Tigers. The fireworks display will begin approximately 10-15 minutes after the game concludes. Baltimore is not the only team to have such a postgame display during spring ball recently. The Blue Jays in Dunedin and the Astros/Nationals in West Palm Beach also hosted fireworks shows over the past couple years.
Fan Giveaways at Orioles Spring Training 2025
Baseball fans heading to Ed Smith Stadium this year are in for a treat because they have opportunities to take home free souvenirs. And that’s because the Orange Birds will have four stadium giveaways throughout Spring Training 2025. The first one will occur during the team’s home opener on Sat. February 22 (1:05 P.M.) vs. Pittsburgh, where all fans in attendance will receive a Magnet Schedule. Next, the Chick-Fil-A® Cow Plush Toy will be available to the first 3,000 ticket holders on Sat. March 1 (1:05 P.M.) vs. Pirates.
Third, the Sat. March 8 game (1:05 P.M.) vs. Tampa Bay Rays will see all fans get access to Rally Towels. Finally, the first 4,000 ticket holders will receive a Gunnar Henderson Spring Training T-Shirt during the Fri. March 14 contest (6:05 P.M.) vs. Minnesota Twins. Everyone who wants to get their hands on one of the four giveaways are encouraged to arrive at the ballpark gates about 1.5 hours prior to first pitch.
Night Games at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota
Those who don’t want to deal with the 80-degree Florida heat might find some relief. For the 2025 campaign, Ed Smith Stadium plans to host two games under the lights. All of those home contests would start at 6:05 P.M. first pitch. Since gates open about 90 minutes before the contests begin, fans are recommended to come to the venue at around 4:35 P.M. Here are the Orioles Spring Training night games for 2025: Friday, March 14 vs. Minnesota (Henderson T-Shirt Night) and Friday, March 21 vs. Detroit (Postgame Fireworks).
Theme Days at Orioles Spring Camp
The 2025 home schedule will include some games with a special themed event. For instance, the O’s will honor local firefighters and police officers on Heroes Day during their Tues. February 25 contest vs. Tigers. Also, Ed Smith Stadium plans to host Family Weekend on Sat. March 8 (Rays) and Sun. March 9 (Twins). That celebration will consist of interactive concourse activities and an appearance from the team’s mascot The Bird. For three games throughout Grapefruit League action, seniors in attendance have the chance to run around the bases after the final out. Here are those three home contests: Mon. February 24 vs. Atlanta, Mon. March 3 vs. Boston, and Wed. March 12 vs. Braves. The Kids Run the Bases promotion will also transpire following the Sun. March 9 matchup vs. Minnesota.
Taste of Camden Yards at Ed Smith Stadium
Baltimore sports fans can sample the flavors of the Orioles’ home ballpark right in Sarasota. At left field, there is a Boog’s BBQ stand where it sells pulled pork sandwiches and baked beans. Boog’s BBQ is perhaps the most popular staple at O’s games at Camden Yards during the regular season. The food stand was named after former AL MVP Boog Powell, who led the Orange Birds to two World Series titles in 1966 and 1970. Boog’s BBQ is not the only place at Ed Smith Stadium to enjoy Maryland-themed cuisine. The Main Concessions stands in the concourse also sells Crab Cake Sandwiches for about $13.00 per plate.
Orioles’ Response to Hurricane Milton in Florida
In Fall 2024, a major Gulf of Mexico cyclone named Hurricane Milton caused wreckage in the Tampa Bay region with strong winds and flash flooding. That was the same natural disaster that tore apart the roof of Tropicana Field, home of the Rays in St. Pete. This situation led the local MLB club to spend this season at Steinbrenner Field for the regular campaign.
As for the Orioles, they had to temporarily suspend baseball operations at Ed Smith Stadium. Even though the O’s spring home didn’t suffer major damage, it was used by the city as a sandbag distribution center. In addition, the Baltimore team gave back to the community in need by donating more than $1 million to the impacted residents in Sarasota and nearby counties. Those who still want to help out and donate to the O’s Hurricane Milton relief efforts can follow the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
