The History of Oregon Ducks Football at Autzen Stadium
When the College Football Season around the corner, the Oregon Ducks are ready for kick-off! The men in green and yellow have been playing at Autzen Stadium since the late-1960’s. Speaking of Autzen Stadium, the venue can hold at least 60,000 fans in attendance. The Ducks football venue is about a 1.5-hour drive from Portland (home of the NBA’s Trail Blazers). Autzen Stadium is also located across the Williamette River from the University of Oregon campus. The football venue is adjacent to PK Park (home of High-A Minor League Baseball’s Eugene Emeralds and the Ducks Baseball Program). The Ducks football stadium was named after local businessman Thomas J. Autzen (whose foundation donated funds to construct the football venue).
Since its opening, the Ducks football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Chip Kelly (head coach), QB Marcus Mariota, RB Royce Freeman, WR Jeff Maehl, Mark Helfrich (head coach), QB Dan Fouts, RB LaMichael James, and many more! The men in green and yellow last reached the National Championship Game in 2015, their second such trip since 2011.
