The History of Oklahoma State Football at Boone Pickens Stadium

With the College Football Season around the corner, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are ready for kick-off! The men in Orange and Black have been playing at Boone Pickens Stadium since the early-1920’s. Speaking of Boone Pickens Stadium, the venue can hold at least 55,000 fans in attendance. Oklahoma State’s football venue is about a 1.5-Hour drive from Norman (home of the Oklahoma Sooners). Boone Pickens Stadium is also located on the Oklahoma State University campus. The school’s football stadium was named after Oklahoma State Graduate/Oil Businessman Thomas Boone Pickens (who provided funds for the venue’s expansion).

Since its opening, the Cowboys football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Mike Gundy (head coach), RB Barry Sanders (Heisman Winner), QB Mason Rudolph, WR Dez Bryant, K Dan Bailey, Pat Jones (head coach), and many more! The men in Orange and Black last won a National Championship in 1945. Recently, the Cowboys won the Big-12 Conference title in 2011. Since 2009, Oklahoma State has played in four New Year’s Bowl Games (including the 2011 Fiesta Bowl victory vs. Stanford).
