The History of Oklahoma City Thunder Basketball at Paycom Center
With the NBA Basketball season underway, the Oklahoma City Thunder are ready for tip-off! The Thunder have been playing home games at Paycom Center since 2008. Speaking of Paycom Center, the venue can hold at least 18,000 basketball fans in capacity. The team’s venue is located in Downtown Oklahoma City (home of Triple-A Baseball’s Dodgers). In fact, Paycom Center is also about a 30-minute drive from Norman (home of the Oklahoma Sooners). The Thunder were previously known as the Seattle SuperSonics until their relocation to Oklahoma in 2008. Paycom Center was formerly known as Chesapeake Area from 2011 until 2021. The Thunder played in the 2012 NBA Finals, but lost to LeBron James and the Miami Heat in five games. Since 2011, the team has reached the Western Conference Finals four times (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016).
