The History of Avalanche Hockey/Nuggets Basketball at Ball Arena
With the NHL and NBA seasons underway, the Denver Nuggets/Colorado Avalanche are ready to play! The teams have been playing home games at Ball Arena since 1999. Speaking of Ball Arena, the venue can hold nearly 18,000 fans in capacity. The teams’ venue is located in Downtown Denver (home of the MLB’s Colorado Rockies). Ball Arena is also located close to Empower Field at Mile High (home of the NFL’s Denver Broncos).
The Avs won three Stanley Cups during their existence (1996, 2001 & 2022), while the Nuggets won its first NBA championship in 2023. Ball Arena was formerly known as the Pepsi Center from 1999 until 2020. The venue also hosted the 2001 NHL All-Star Game as well as the 2005 NBA All-Star Weekend.
