With the Minor League Hockey Season underway, the Niagara IceDogs are ready to drop the puck! The IceDogs are an independent affiliate of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In fact, the OHL is one of the three leagues in the Canadian Hockey League along with the Quebec Major Junior League and the Western Hockey League. The Storm, who have played in the OHL Finals in 2012 and 2016, have been playing in the OHL since 2007. The team was formerly known as the Mississauga IceDogs (Ontario: 1998-2007) before their relocation to Niagara. The IceDogs currently play in the Central Division (Eastern Conference) along with the Barrie Colts, North Bay Battalion, Mississauga Steelheads, and Sudbury Wolves.
Where do the Niagara IceDogs Play their Home Games? Who is the Main Mascot?
The IceDogs have been playing their home games at Meridian Centre since 2014. Speaking of Meridian Centre, the 5,000-capacity arena is located in Downtown St. Catharines not far from Lake Ontario. The venue is about a 0.5-hour drive from the world famous Niagara Falls. In fact, the stadium is about a 40-45 minute drive from Hamilton (home of the OHL’s Bulldogs and CFL’s Tiger-Cats). Meridian Centre even has a City of St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame located in the concourse. The team’s main mascot is Bones the White Dog.
