With the NBA Basketball season underway, the New Orleans Pelicans are ready for tip-off! The Pelicans have been playing home games at Smoothie King Center since 2002. Speaking of Smoothie King Center, the venue can hold at least 16,000 basketball fans in capacity. The team’s venue is located in Downtown New Orleans adjacent to Caesar’s Superdome (home of the NFL’s Saints).
Smoothie King Center is also about a 1.5-hour drive from Baton Rouge (home of the LSU Tigers). The venue was formerly known as New Orleans Arena from 1999 until 2014. Also, the team was previously known as the New Orleans Hornets from 2002 until 2013. Since the franchise began play in 2002, New Orleans has reached the playoffs seven times.
