The History of New Mexico Lobos Football at University Stadium

With the College Football Season around the corner, the New Mexico Lobos are ready for kick-off! The men in Cheery and Silver have been playing at University Stadium since the early-1960’s. Speaking of University Stadium, the venue can hold nearly 40,000 fans in attendance. New Mexico’s football is located near Isotope Park (home of Triple-A Baseball’s Isotopes). The venue is also located just several miles from the University of New Mexico campus. The school’s football stadium was formerly known as Dreamstyle Stadium from 2017 until 2020.

Since its opening, the Lobos football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Bob Davie (head coach), LB Brian Urlacher, S Glover Quin, Rocky Long (head coach), and many more! The men in Cherry and Silver last played in the Conference Championship Game in 1997. Recently, the Lobos won the Mountain Division Title (shared) in 2016. However, New Mexico has not been to a bowl game since the 2016 season.
