The History of Wolfpack Football at Carter-Finley Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the NC State Wolfpack are ready for kick-off! The men in Red and White have been playing at Carter-Finley Stadium since the mid-1960’s. Speaking of Carter-Finley Stadium, the venue can hold at least 55,000 fans in attendance. The Wolfpack’s football venue is located right next to PNC Arena (home of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes and Wolfpack Basketball). Carter-Finley Stadium is also located just a couple miles from the North Carolina State University campus. The school’s football stadium was named after the following NC State Contributors: Harry C. Carter, Wilbert J. Carter, and Albert E. Finley.
Since its opening, the Wolfpack football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Dave Doeren (head coach), QB Russel Wilson (before Wisconsin transfer), OL Bradley Chubb, C Garrett Bradbury, Lou Holtz (head coach), and many more! The men in Red and White last won the ACC Championship in 1979. Since 2010, NC State has played in nine bowl games (5-4 record). Carter-Finley Stadium will be hosting a future NHL Stadium Series game involving the Carolina Hurricanes as soon as the 2022-2023 season.
