The History of Missouri Basketball at Mizzou Arena
With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Tigers are ready for tip-off! The men in black and gold have been playing at Mizzou Arena since the mid-2000’s. Speaking of Mizzou Arena, the venue can hold at least 15,000 fans in capacity. The Tigers basketball venue is about a 2.0-hour drive from St. Louis (home of the NHL’s Blues and MLB’s Cardinals). The basketball building is also located on the school’s campus not far from Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium (football).
The arena has a court that is named in honor of basketball coach Norm Steawart (1967-1999). In addition, the venue underwent renovations in 2014 that saw new locker rooms and player facilities. For men’s basketball, the Tigers last reached the Elite 8 in 2009. Meanwhile, the women’s squad recently played in the Sweet 16 in 2001. The men’s program took part in the March Madness six times since 2010, while the women’s team made four such appearances during that span.
